Nippers
Does your child love the beach? Our Nippers program is the perfect place for children aged 5-15 to build confidence, make lifelong friends, and learn essential surf safety skills in a fun, supportive environment. At Fairy Meadow, Nippers is about active learning, new challenges, and discovering the magic of the ocean safely. We focus on encouragement and positive experiences, ensuring every child feels a sense of belonging and achievement. As they grow, Nippers gradually learn the skills needed to become future lifesavers, embodying our club's spirit of community and service.
-
At it's core Nippers is a pathway for younger children to begin learning the skills required to become a Lifesaver in a fun and safe environment. At Fairy Meadow, Nippers is about building confidence, making friends, learning how to enjoy the beach safely, and is about being active and taking on new challenges.

Absolutely! We warmly encourage parents to join in the fun. From helping with beach activities to running the BBQ or even becoming an Age Manager or Water Safety, there's a role for everyone. There's no pressure on you to take on big roles or responsibilities; we just encourage everyone to help out when and where they can. It’s a fantastic way to meet other families and become an even bigger part of our social club.

Join a patrol team
At Fairy Meadow Surf Club, lifesaving is our core mission. We are dedicated to keeping our beautiful beach safe for everyone, and we do it with a supportive, team-oriented approach. Becoming a volunteer lifesaver is incredibly rewarding; it's about learning vital skills, gaining confidence in the surf, and making a tangible difference in our community. We believe there's a role for everyone, regardless of your background or current abilities.
-
No, you absolutely don't! Our multidisciplinary patrol team has a role for everyone. There's plenty to be done on the sand, from radio communications and first aid to vigilant supervision of swimmers. We need members trained in a variety of skills, not just swimming.
-
We offer comprehensive, high-quality training tailored to various roles. At a minimum, we encourage members to be trained in CPR and First Aid. Our expert educators, including registered paramedics and qualified teachers, provide top-tier training using cutting-edge equipment that creates a lifelike environment for real-time feedback. You can explore a range of courses depending on your interests, from basic surf awareness to advanced rescue techniques. SLSNSW provides a great overview of the training available as a member of a surf club - view it here
-
Our members typically complete two half-day (3.5-hour) patrols per month, with occasional adjustments for public holidays. We foster a strong culture of helping each other out, so if you're unavailable for a rostered patrol, finding a substitute is straightforward. We are all volunteers, working together with flexibility and mutual support.

Fairy Meadow Surf Club understands that not everyone is able to run into the surf and rescue someone like they do on Bondi Rescue. That’s why we offer two pathways to becoming a Lifesaver.
In addition to training Lifesavers, we believe all of our members should have access to CPR and first aid training. Thats why our courses are open to all members, including the parents and carers of our Nippers. Accredited training in CPR is always free for every member and accredited first aid training is provided at heavily discounted prices through our third-party training partner.
Just another benefit of being a member with Fairy Meadow Surf Club.
-
For the water enthusiasts you can learn skills in rescue techniques, search and rescue and even operate an inflatable rescue boat (IRB).
-
For those who prefer to stay on the sand we offer training in radio communications, first aid, advanced first aid, CPR and advanced resuscitation techniques.
